I am a firm believer in the power words have over people. Whether the words are spoken, read, or thought, these words have an opportunity to change us in powerful ways. Therefore, I find it so helpful to memorize verses of scripture. You never know what kind of situation you will find yourself in, and sometimes being able to recall a Bible verse will be the difference in you having a good or a bad day. Scripture is such a beautiful resource. Do not just read it; use it.
Stress, anxiety, and worry is something that everyone struggles with. Honestly, for the longest time y'all I was letting my stress about the future and anxiety about the situations I was in dictate my life. I started following my stress and not my Jesus. But, when I started to dive into verses that talked about combating my worries and giving my stress to God, slowly but surely, I began to feel less and less anxious. So, without further ado, here are my top ten favorite verses about how to get rid of worry, stress, and anxiety. 1.Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight. – Psalm 119:43 Even if everything in the world is going wrong, delight in the Lord. Delight in His ways. Following His commands will always produce good fruits. 2. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise- in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? – Psalm 56:3-4 Sometimes stress and anxiety from the world can get to us. That is okay; that is normal. But, the world cannot get to our Jesus. 3. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. -Proverbs 16:3 Fear of the future can cause a lot of stress. Trust God. Give Him all your worries, doubts, and plans. He will transform them into something truly beautiful. 4. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. – 2 Thessalonians 3:16 There is no one better to receive peace from than the Lord of peace Himself. 5.Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. – Psalm 23:4 There is no need to have anxiety when Jesus is walking next to you. If He takes you through something then He will protect you through it as well. 6.I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. – Psalm 16:8 I like this verse because it reminds me that God has gone before me in every situation. So, whenever I have a future situation that I am worrying about, I remind myself that my Jesus has already been there and knows the way through it. 7.In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. – John 16:33 Jesus was a human. Jesus was tempted. JESUS OVERCAME THE WORLD. There is nothing in this world that Jesus himself has not experienced. That includes being in stressful situations. 8.But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 God will make sure that I have everything I need. God will make sure that you have everything you need. If you are walking in Him, then you will lack nothing. 9.Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:7 He cares. It is that simple. You do not have to have a life crisis to bring it to God. Jesus Christ died so we could run to Him with all our problems. He is there to listen 10. Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear… See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you- you of little faith- Matthew 6:25,28-30 Now I know these verses are a lot to memorize, but I normally just paraphrase them. However, the image of God caring and clothing the flowers is so beautiful to me. These are my favorite verses to remind myself of. I remember when my mom, sister, and I were landing at the Amsterdam airport I saw fields and fields of flowers from the plane. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. And best of all, God is the one who takes care of those flowers. Those flowers remind me that God takes care of me. -Morgan :) My dad and I have always had a very special bond. He has been there from the moment that I came into this world, and he has stuck by my side ever since. He is a teacher so his schedule always lined up with mine while I was going through school. Over the years he was the one who drove me to soccer, dance, cheer, volleyball, and whatever sport I decided to try that year. Most of them did not last long though. For as long as I can remember my dad has been involved in the church in some capacity. My favorite thing he does is the children’s messages at our church. The thing about children’s messages is that they often speak to the adults in the crowd just as much or even more than they do the children. On Father’s Day, Dad talked to the kiddos about how God could have chosen anything He wanted to be. But out of all the titles and positions God could be, He chose to be our Father. He wants to be our Dad. Sometimes I find myself focused on the idea of God being my creator, healer, sustainer, and comforter, but I forget above all He just wants to be my Dad. Although God is so much more than just a father, the image of Him as a father reminds me of His sacrificial love. I cannot imagine a love greater than the love my Dad has for me, but God’s love far surpasses it. I believe God placed my dad and all other father figures in our lives to give us a small glimpse of how much He loves and adores us. Deuteronomy 1:29-31 says,” Then I said to you’ Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as He did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” I never really imagined God wanting to give me a piggy back ride, but after reading those verses that is the picture I have in my head. Just like a dad would when we have had a bad day or are going through something, God just says, “Hop on,” and carries us through the problems we are facing. I have always known my dad loved me, but I did not realize how much of a sacrificial love it was until about a year ago. For the past eighteen years, my dad has sacrificed his time, talents, and so much more to provide for me. If that is not a perfect allusion to an awesome God who sacrificed His most prized possession, His son, to give me the best life I could ever have, then I do not know what is. So, thank you God for giving me such a loving Dad, and thank you Dad for showing me how to love my Father. - Morgan :) College is hard. Trying to seek God' s will for your life in this new time can be even harder. There is no more youth group or church camp to help guide you through the ups and downs of life. In the beginning, it can scary being in a whole new environment. Just hold on. God has a crazy exciting plan for you and it is all about to begin.
The biggest thing I learned while seeking God my first year of college is God will take you to amazing places if you ask Him. You see the thing is, He will never just push you into those places though. He wants you to take a step out of your comfort zone and one step closer to Him. It's almost as if God is saying the ball is in your court. He gave us His Son, His Word and His promises, and then He says now it is your turn to move. I also learned when God brings you out of your comfort zone, He has already prepared a new place for you. Going to college, I was scared. I was going to a school where I knew nobody, and I was three hours away from home. I knew I was going to make faith a priority in my life at school I just did not know how I was going to do it. Less than a day after being at my school, I was already being invited to come be a part of a church and a small group. I do not go to a Christian university, and this is not just a normal thing. So that Sunday, I went to church with a few people I did not know. Fast forward about a year, those same people and that same church are my anchor. They have become some of my best friends, and the church has become my home. God filled my life with people and a church I am very confident I would not have been able to find on my own, and that is the last of the biggest things God showed me my first year. It is not good to be alone. From the very beginning of time, God has revealed that it is not good for someone to go though life without a support system. Genesis 2:18 says "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." It is very easily to become isolated at college. It's kind of ironic since there are so many people at college, but becoming secluded happens a lot easier than you think. Humans are made to be in fellowship with one another. That is how community is built, discipleship is fostered, and love is shown. God does this funny thing where when we pray to Him for answers, but He gives us people instead. He places certain people in our life for the situations we are in. Be open to new friendships and relationships because you never know who God has placed to be an answer to your prayers. The amazing thing about this is that God wants to do that for you too. He has a plan and a path for every single one of you, and all of them are different, kind of like snowflakes. I am oh so expectant and excited for what God is going to do in your life. So, go ahead and step out of your comfort zone and into Him! -Morgan :) |
